Come out to LRA for our monthly bootblack night, where three (3) of
our title holding, award winning bootblacks will take care of all of
your Leather needs for the fall and beyond.
About our bootblacks:
pony is the International Ms Bootblack 2009, where she was also given
the "Hearts and Sole" award in recognition of her commitment to the
art of bootblacking and the Leather community. she is a bootblack
whose work is well respected in her home community of Louisville, KY
and her adopted community in the Chicago/Rockford area. she is an
active member of LRA Chicago, a member of the Louisville Trailblazers,
and a founding member of House Coptos, her Leather family. Previously,
she was named Kentucky Bootblack 2006.
Bootdog is the International Mr Bootblack 2008. A recent transplant
to Chicago from California, Bootdog is a well known and well respected
bootblack around the country, and LRA is please to have someone of his
"caliber" to join our growing ranks of skilled bootblacks. He is a
full member (and webmaster) of the Alameda County Leather Corps (ACLC)
and an associate member of STARS M.C. He is also a cigar aficionado
and appreciator of uniforms. He also has a slight "bear" fetish. (If
you don't know what that means, come to LRA and ask him!)
Riley Johnson is a Chicago-based educator, scholar, and bootblack who
is very proud to have been awarded the Great Lakes Bootblack 2007
title. Riley first honed his bootblacking skills as a formal
apprentice to Leslie Anderson (IMsBB 1999) and Suka Malone (IMsBB
2005) and has continued to learn skills from those he has met in his
travels. He is greatly honored to be a part of Mama's Family as Mama's
Switch Hitter and is a volunteer and voting member of the Leather
Archives and Museum, where he is currently overseeing their vast
collection of pins and buttons. In 2008, Riley competed in the
International Community Bootblack competition where he was awarded the
"Golden Brush" award, recognition of his commitment to the spirit of
the leather community. Riley is also a member of the Board of
Directors at LRA.
Remember that for the entire year of 2009, all tips and donations will
go to benefit the Leather Archives & Museum (www.leatherarchives.org)
(http://www.leatherarchives.org/ ) in Chicago, just blocks from the
LRA.
Along with Bootblack Night, we will also be having out Monthly Cigar
Smokeout. Our friendly, sadistic, bootblack Riley has decided to take
advantage of our versatile
space and host this smokin' good time on our outside patio (smoking
will not be allowed inside the premises). Every month, he will be
bringing some of his favorite cigars and provide an evening of great
socializing, cigar instruction, and ample time to kick back with a
cigar (and the opportunity to get your boots done in the process).
We will provide all of the tools that you may require including a
punch, a cutter, and a torch. We may even have a few willing cigar
bottoms in our midst - who knows? You just need to bring yourself,
your favorite cigars, and your boots.
This event will be running monthly until the weather gets too cold!
